Georgian PM announces subsidised Euro 2024 airline tickets for fans, increased bonus for national team for playoff qualification


Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday announced an upcoming sale of airline tickets subsidised by the state to enable fans of the national football team to travel to the European Football Championship in Germany, as well as an increase in the bonus for the national team to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament, according to

Kobakhidze said supporters would be able to digitally purchase 3,000 one-way tickets for €195 starting late this week, with 2,000 handed out to fans at the Tbilisi International Airport in the capital and 1,000 to those at the western Kutaisi International Airport. The flights will take fans to Dortmund, Hamburg, Cologne and Düsseldorf.

“On June 18, 22 and 26, matches of the Georgian national team will be held [...] and it is very important that as many Georgian fans as possible can attend these matches [...] We have already taken measures and charter flights are being subsidised, and we are also subsidising a number of regular flights”, he said.

The subsidised tickets will be available to citizens who have also purchased tickets for matches of the national team at the tournament.

The PM also said the bonus for the squad to qualify for the playoff stage of the competition from their group would be increased from ₾850,000 ($317,784) to ₾3 million ($1.12mln).

Georgia’s national football team claimed their first-ever spot at the European Championship after defeating Greece in the playoff final for the tournament on March 26.

The team will play their first match at the competition against Türkiye on June 18 in Dortmund, with other group stage games set against the Czech Republic on June 22 in Hamburg and Portugal on June 26 in Gelsenkirchen.
