The Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington hosted an event to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the death of National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev.

The event was attended by several members of the Azerbaijani community, Azerbaijani students studying in the US, as well as other guests.

Addressing the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Khazar Ibrahim highlighted National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s unparalleled contributions to the nation and state. Noting that Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan, laid the foundation for Azerbaijan’s diplomacy, the ambassador underlined that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, they are making every effort to implement these strategies.

The diplomat also highlighted the great Victory of Azerbaijan in the Patriotic War. He said that the foundation for this triumph was laid by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, adding that it was realized thanks to Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev and the heroic soldiers of the Azerbaijani Army.

The participants of the event paid tribute to the memory of the architect of the modern Azerbaijani state Heydar Aliyev and put flowers before the National Leader’s bust.

The event also featured the screening of a film about National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
