Azerbaijan embarks on massive tree planting campaign: over 1.6M trees to be planted

Starting tomorrow, Azerbaijan will commence an ambitious tree-planting initiative across the country, Report informs.

Under the motto "Let's unite for a green world!", 85 city and district executive powers aim to plant an astounding 1,611,000 trees and shrubs on an area spanning 2,401 hectares between October 18 and October 27.

The 10-day campaign will cover all regions of the country. Baku city alone will witness the planting of 619,000 trees, while Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic will see 89,000 new trees. The remaining cities and districts will contribute 903,000 trees to this green endeavor.

The selection of trees takes into account the local climate and drought resistance. Out of the total trees to be planted, 749,000 will be primarily evergreen forest trees, 692,000 will be decorative shrubs, and 170,000 will be fruit trees.

In preparation for the campaign, all city and district executive authorities have identified 540 locations for planting the greenery. Crucial organizational and technical measures have been taken to ensure agrotechnical care, protection, and irrigation of the newly planted trees.
