World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and New Year celebrated at Baku Engineering University

The Baku Engineering University (BEU) held an event to mark December 31 - World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and the New Year holiday.

The event began with a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs, followed by the national anthem.

Speaking at the event, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev emphasized that 2025 will be remembered for significant political, legal, and international achievements for Azerbaijan. The rector stressed that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, decisions of special importance in the history of Azerbaijan’s statehood were adopted this year, and consistent, purposeful steps were taken toward strengthening the country’s sovereignty, economic power and international standing, and achieving lasting peace. Azerbaijan has conquered new horizons in the fields of energy security, transport and logistics, trade, innovation, and digital development. Noting Azerbaijan's leading position in the East-West and Middle Corridor, Yagub Piriyev stated that the country has become one of the main transport hubs connecting Europe and Asia. Highlighting separately the documents signed during the President's visits to the United States, China, and other countries, the rector said that Azerbaijan now acts as a strategic partner.

Touching upon the university's activities in the context of the year's results in his speech, Yagub Piriyev brought to attention the achievements of the last two years. He stated that student enrollment at BEU and the number of high-scoring applicants choosing the university have nearly doubled, with interest in the higher education institution rising significantly. Listing the successes achieved in international cooperation in 2025, Yagub Piriyev said that relations with Chinese higher education institutions have been expanded, the first dual degree program at the undergraduate level with Beijing University of Chemical Technology has been implemented this year, and active work is underway to prepare similar programs with other universities in that country. The rector stated that BEU has made serious progress in the QS international ranking, entered the top thousand, and that work in this direction is being carried out systematically.

At the end of his speech, the rector stated that the successes achieved in all areas in Azerbaijan are the result of the unity of the Azerbaijani people, the strength of the state, and the determined, far-sighted policy based on national interests of President Ilham Aliyev. He also congratulated the BEU community on the occasion of the holiday and expressed his best wishes.

The event continued with an entertainment program prepared by the university's artistic amateur performance ensemble.
