Today, the Baku Higher Oil School of SOCAR (BHOS) celebrates its 13th anniversary. BHOS was established as a public higher educational institution within the SOCAR structure upon a decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated November 29, 2011.

Over the past 13 years, Baku Higher Oil School has gained a high reputation and achieved record indicators, leading in the number of Presidential Scholars, passing scores, and the quality of education. In the year when the State Examination Center (SEC) conducted the first university admission examinations, BHOS became the leader among 51 universities in the rating table compiled by the SEC.

There were two specialties at BHOS in its first year. Nowadays, education at the university is conducted in 7 specialties at the bachelor's level, 5 engineering specialties, an MBA program (4 directions) at the master's level, and 3 specialties at the doctoral level.

In the 2024/2025 academic year, 4 out of 5 specialties with the highest passing scores were BHOS specialties. The specialty “Information Security” at BHOS has the highest passing score (687.1 points) among Azerbaijani universities. The highest average passing score in the country (645 points) also belongs to Baku Higher Oil School. Sixteen winners of international and national subject Olympiads were admitted to BHOS without competition. The university’s admission plan was fulfilled 100 percent. Thirty-five BHOS graduates will continue their studies at foreign universities under the “State Program for the Education of Young People at Prestigious Higher Education Institutions in Foreign Countries in 2022-2026.”

This academic year, BHOS maintained its leadership in the number of Presidential Scholars (33). The learning process at Baku Higher Oil School is integrated with industrial practice. Every year, BHOS students undergo internships at various enterprises.

Baku Higher Oil School, a clear example of the implementation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s motto, “We must turn oil capital into human capital,” not only provides its students with a quality education but also pays special attention to their employment. Today, BHOS graduates successfully work in various large local and foreign companies, state enterprises, and some of them continue their education at prestigious universities around the world under various scholarship programs.
