The aim of this project is to create a unified catalogue, specifically a universal catalogue of Nizami Ganjavi's manuscripts, regardless of their storage locations, whether in libraries or private collections, Professor Edmund Herzig from the UK, the director of the “Nizami Ganjavi Manuscripts Union Catalogue and Database” project, stated in an interview with AZERTAC.

He said, "We will catalogue the manuscripts that have not yet been catalogued. As a result, this will become a unified source. Researchers, editors, and translators will be able to use this source. They will know where these manuscripts are, when they were written, and who their owners are. I am confident that this is a very significant project. The project is being implemented with the participation of various partners. My colleagues at Oxford and I are working on translating the manuscripts into English and creating an online database. We also have colleagues in Iran. Our chief cataloguer, Mir-Ansari, has done a lot of work in identifying the manuscripts. Finally, in Azerbaijan, we are collaborating with our colleagues at the Academy of Sciences. They are translating the manuscripts into Azerbaijani. The catalogue will be published in three languages – Azerbaijani, Persian, and English."
