Stephen King fans are furious after learning that Netflix will be making a reboot of a classic film adaptation of one of his novels, according to Daily Mail.
Netflix recently snagged a deal and will be making a new feature film about Cujo the killer dog with Roy Lee as the producer, per Deadline.
Cujo, one of the 77-year-old author and renowned King of Horror's many bestselling horror novels, was originally published in 1981.
After learning that the streaming service would be working on a remake, many devoted fans took to social media to slam the idea of a reboot.
Several X users said the idea was 'unfortunate' and 'awful.'
While the cast and writers have not yet been confirmed, many have already shared their distaste of the streaming service potentially using computer-generated imagery (CGI) for the antagonist in the movie.
Cujo was adapted into a film and turned into the 1983 thriller that starred Dee Wallace as a mother trying to protect her son from a St. Bernard that transformed from a sweet dog to an aggressive killer after he is bitten by a rabid bat.
In the Lewis Teague-directed flick, she stars opposite young Danny Pintauro as the mother-son duo are trapped in their tiny car and try to escape from the crazed animal.
In response to the news, one social media user tweeted: 'Don't need a remake.'
One fan admitted: 'I didn't like the first one honestly. I can't imagine Netflix doing a better job.'
'Stop. Remaking. S***,' another person added.
A fan tweeted that Netflix's decision to do a reboot was 'unfortunate.'
'Hated the original and a CGI dog will not make things better,' they wrote. 'Always felt bad for Cujo, far more than the humans. Terrible idea for a "monster," in both the book and the film...'
Many fans expressed disappointment in the streaming service for wanting to reboot the original movie and speculated that the project would be worsened with an animated dog.
