Cuban female judoka Maricet Espinosa dies at 34 after suffering cardiac arrest
Maricet Espinosa, one of the best Cuban judokas, died following a sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday at the age of 34.
Espinosa, a native of Havana, obtained her main results in the international arena in the Pan American competitions: In 2013, she became Pan American Champion, as well as in 2014. She was a multiple Cuban champion and was victorious at the Pan American Open in Lima in 2016 and Panam Open in Buenos Aires.
She competed at many Grand Slams and won bronze medals at Grand Slams in Baku, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. She fought the final of the Grand Prix in Havana in 2016 against former World Champion Yarden Gerbi.
