Thousands protest in France against immigration law
Thousands of people in France protested to demand the repeal of the immigration law recently passed by the country’s parliament, Report informs referring to France 24.
"The immigration law is a racist law. We don't want this, we are fighting it," the demonstrators chanted.
More than 400 collectives, associations, unions and political parties called for demonstrations against the text, which "takes up many ideas of the far right."
The law adopted by parliament on December 19 significantly limits the payment of social benefits to foreigners, establishes migration quotas, questions the automaticity of land legislation and reinstates the “crime of illegal residence.”
In 2023, France expelled 4,686 foreigners who committed offenses. This figure is 30% higher than the corresponding figure for 2022.
French authorities expelled 3,615 foreign offenders in 2022, and 1,800 in 2021.
