Energy workers in France to go on strike due to low wages

Employees of the energy company EDF in France plan to go on strike on January 15 due to low wages, the Secretary General of the FNME-CGT Trade Union Association Fabrice Coudour said, Report informs.

According to him, the strike participants will demand an increase in wages in 2024.

The day before, negotiations on salaries at EDF failed. Management proposed increasing employee remuneration by 1.5% in addition to indexing wages by 2% in all industries. Trade unions demanded an increase in employee salaries by 4%. Having failed to achieve results, four energy sector unions promised to send a strike warning to company management.

In the fall of 2022, at the height of the energy crisis in Europe, a strike by EDF employees led to delays in repair work at several nuclear power units, which created the risk of a shortage of electricity in the country.
