Ognjen Gogic: EU deliberately delaying Serbia's accession
The European Union is not ready to accept new members, therefore it is artificially delaying the process of Serbia joining its ranks, Serbian political scientist Ognjen Gogic told Report.
According to the expert, Serbia strives to join the EU, wants to become its full member, and has been in talks with the union for ten years, but this process is going too slowly.
The political scientist believes that the EU is deliberately delaying the process of Serbia’s accession: "The thing is that EU is not ready to admit anyone. It is dragging us on. This is why Serbia does not want to change its policy towards Russia and Kosovo. Serbia knows that it won't get anything in return."
He stated that the West constantly calls on Belgrade to harmonize its foreign policy with the European one and impose sanctions against Russia, calling this issue the main problem in the relationship between Western countries and Serbia.
Gogic noted that the EU accession process will not be accelerated even if Serbia fulfills all the demands from the West.
Even if Serbia imposes sanctions against Russia, it will not become closer to the EU, he said, adding that for this reason Serbia is not ready to do this.
