Moscow braces for heaviest snowfall on record

On December 15, Moscow will see its heaviest snowfall in more than half a century, a specialist at the Phobos Weather Center Evgeniy Tishkovets said, Report informs via Russian media.

Under the influence of the Mediterranean cyclone, about 19-24 mm of precipitation will fall in Moscow on Friday, about 40% of the monthly norm, the forecaster said.

According to his calculations, such a snowfall has not occurred in the Russian capital since 1966, when meteorologists recorded 17.3 mm of precipitation.

Tishkovets also emphasized that the upcoming snowfall could become a record in the entire history of meteorological observations.

Snowfalls will end by Sunday, December 17, he noted and added that such prolonged snowfalls in mid-December were recorded this century only in 2022.
