Archaeological excavations in Karabakh will primarily focus on the Bronze Age ‘Kurgan Desert’ and necropolis in the Khojaly region, the Imaret complex in the Aghdam district, the Middle Bronze Age settlement of Üzerliktepe, the Paleolithic Azykh-Taghlar cave camps, the Fizuli mounds, and the medieval settlement of Shahri-Sharifan in the Zangilan region,” said Director of the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Farhad Guliyev, during a scientific session titled “Archaeological and Anthropological Research in Azerbaijan: Outcomes and Prospects.”
Noting that the study of the material and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania represents a distinct research area, the director added: “One of the upcoming tasks for us is to conduct international archaeological expeditions in Karabakh.”
