Eldar Salimov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iraq, presented a copy of his credentials to the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein.
The Iraqi minister wished Ambassador Eldar Salimov success in his future activities.
Fuad Hussein affirmed his country’s keenness to further enhance the historically strong relations with Azerbaijan across various fields, noting that he has visited friendly Azerbaijan four times so far within the different international events.
The Iraqi minister also expressed his country’s interest in developing economic and trade relations between the two countries, highlighting the importance of flights, which has been operating since 2025 on Baghdad–Baku route by AZAL and Iraqi Airways, in this regard.
Ambassador Salimov emphasized the importance of further developing the historically established relations between the two countries across various areas, stressing the significance of the official visit of Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Iraq on May 7, 2025, the second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Iraq held in Baghdad on April 20, as well as the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission in Baku on December 3–4.
The Azerbaijani ambassador underlined the importance of maintaining high-level relations and mutually beneficial dialogue between Baku and Baghdad.
The meeting also addressed other issues on the bilateral and regional cooperation agenda between the two countries.
