Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Sudan hold political consultations

On January 12, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Muawiya Osman Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sudan.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Sudan, as well as current situation and security issues in the broader region.

Both sides underlined the importance of political dialogue in advancing bilateral ties and cooperation within multilateral frameworks. They also emphasized the significance of the consultation mechanism and reciprocal visits between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting underscored the importance of Sudan's active participation in COP29, as well as its involvement in the World Urban Forum, which is set to be held this year.

The sides hailed the cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, particularly the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Discussions further touched upon the cooperation in the energy, humanitarian, educational, and other sectors, as well as regarding the “ASAN Khidmet.” Muawiya Osman Khalid expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for providing educational scholarships to Sudanese students.

The meeting also addressed other regional and bilateral issues of mutual concern.

On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Sudan. Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev represented Azerbaijan, while Sudan was represented by Muawiya Osman Khalid.
