Azerbaijan, Bulgaria discuss inter-parliamentary relations

Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis, met with Natalia Kiselova, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, who is visiting the country to participate in the 65th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) in Baku.

The Azerbaijani Speaker expressed her confidence that Natalia Kiselova's first visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries and their parliaments.

Noting that the PABSEC chairmanship would be transferred to the Bulgarian Parliament during the session, Sahiba Gafarova, as the incumbent Chair of PABSEC, described the organization as an essential platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Portraying Azerbaijan and Bulgaria as friendly and strategic partner countries, Gafarova emphasized that political relations between the two countries and the reciprocal visits of President Ilham Aliyev and President Rumen Radev play an exceptional role in developing bilateral ties.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis also highlighted the positive impact of parliamentary cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. The joint activity of inter-parliamentary friendship groups plays an important role in this area, she emphasized.

The sides also discussed enhancing cooperation between parliamentary committees and strengthening interaction within international parliamentary organizations.

Natalia Kiselova hailed the high-level relations between the two countries, noting that her visit is a clear testament to these ties. She described PABSEC as a crucial platform for the development of relations between the member states.

She noted that the restoration of the Trapezitsa Archaeological Museum Reserve in Veliko Tarnovo with the financial support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was highly appreciated by the Bulgarian people.

During the conversation, she shared her views on cooperation in regional and international parliamentary organizations, the activities of mutual parliamentary friendship groups, and the importance of parliamentary diplomacy.
