On June 14, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a phone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
According to the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers discussed the situation that emerged following Israel’s military operation targeting Iranian territory.
The Iranian Foreign Minister provided details about the attack carried out by the State of Israel and outlined the measures taken by Iran in response.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed concern over the growing tensions in the region. He extended condolences over the deaths of the Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, other officials, and Iranian civilians. Stressing that the current situation surrounding nuclear facilities is alarming, Minister Bayramov underscored the need to resolve existing issues through dialogue and diplomacy, in line with international law and established norms and principles.
He firmly stated that the territory of Azerbaijan cannot and will not be used by any country to take action against a third party - including neighboring and friendly Iran.
In light of Iran’s closed airspace, he noted that Azerbaijan has provided passage through its land borders for representatives of various countries and Iran.
Amid concerns over the potential expansion of the conflict to a broader regional scale, the importance of restoring diplomatic initiatives was once again emphasized.
The two ministers also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest during the call.
