Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ziya Öztürkler on the margins of the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (OTS) on 11 June.
Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Majlis of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan, particularly to President Ilham Aliyev, for the support provided to the TRNC, emphasizing that this support is highly appreciated.
He expressed satisfaction with participating in the 14th Plenary Session of TURKPA as part of the Turkic World, adding that the successful activities of TURKPA under the presidency of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan contribute to the further strengthening of the Organization and the enhancement of its international standing.
Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the efforts aimed at uniting the Turkic World, noting that the active cooperation within TURKPA contributes to deepening the ties between the two parliaments in this regard. Emphasizing that strengthening the Turkic World and expanding relations with Turkic states are among the top priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also pointed out the relevant statements made, and steps taken by President Ilham Aliyev.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of the cooperation and interaction between the two parliaments’ friendship groups.
During the meeting, the sides underscored the significance of the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States and the importance of the agenda items for the Organization’s future activities. The meeting also included an exchange of views on other matters of mutual concern.
