“Azerbaijan is a country that has always sought to remain active in the system of multilateral relations. The activities within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), hosting COP29 and our current chairmanship are among the significant steps undertaken in this regard. We will host a number of important events to maintain this position in the coming years,” said Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as he addressed the expanded meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Affairs.

Noting that Azerbaijan will host the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) next year, Deputy Minister Rafiyev underlined that the country will assume the chairmanship of this organization for a two-year term.

He further noted that Azerbaijan will also host the Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) this year. “Several other major international events are also scheduled for the next year. One of them is the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which is one of the largest events organized within the framework of the UN system,” Rafiyev mentioned.

“As a result of a highly competitive process, Baku was elected to host one of the biggest global events – the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in 2026 and it is yet another recognition of Baku’s central role in the global multilateral system,” he added.
