Abbas Abbasov: Baku Initiative Group can act as a mediator in negotiations between New Caledonia and France

“Political and illegal arrests are not only observed in New Caledonia, but also in other overseas territories. As the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), we provide support to political prisoners,” Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), said at a press conference organized by the BIG ahead of the international conference on "Colonialism: Destruction of National and Religious Identity.”

“The facts regarding colonialism in New Caledonia have not been known to the world community in the last year or two. Negotiations with the French government have been ongoing since the 1980s. As the Baku Initiative Group, we can act as a mediator in the negotiations between France and New Caledonia. I believe that illegal arrests and human rights violations related to these territories should be prevented. We, as an international NGO, can act an intermediary in these negotiations,” he added.
