The Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan hosted a meeting with media representatives from French colonies, Report informs.

Within the framework of the meeting, discussions were conducted with the Corsican People Support Group established in the Milli Majlis.

Before the meeting, foreign journalists visited the Alley of Martyrs and the Eternal Torch monument.

Speaking at the meeting, MP Javanshir Feyziyev, a member of the Corsican People Support Group, voiced regret that that there are territories in the world today which suffer from colonialism. He added that pressure is being exerted on countries such as Azerbaijan, which oppose colonialism.

"Despite this, we will not give up our position, we will stand by you in the struggle of overseas island states through all means," Feyziyev noted.

Another member of the group, Azer Karimli, informed foreign journalists about the Khojaly tragedy, highlighting that today is the anniversary of the tragedy:

“The existence of colonialism is one of the most serious problems in the 21st century, and this policy of France is a step against humanity. The President of Azerbaijan, as the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, has repeatedly spoken out with facts about these steps of France, their actions against humanity. We would like to emphasize once again that Azerbaijan supports the struggle of the overseas island states.”

Tural Ganjaliyev, another member of the Corsican People Support Group, underscored in his speech that great importance is attached to cooperation between Azerbaijan and the overseas territories: “Today, France maintains its political and economic influence in the overseas territories. We must fight against the official tales of France.”

In his speech, the coordinator of the New Caledonian Radio Djido and Radio Kanaky radios, André Qaeze, expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for the invitation to Baku and support.

“We are currently negotiating with the French government to transfer some powers to New Caledonia. We are thinking about ensuring press freedom and its diversification,” he added.

Paul Quelleri-Selbonne, editor of the Nouvelles-Etincelles newspaper in Guadeloupe, emphasized that France owns the communications and means in his country, as well as the satellites used for this:

“France is an economic power. We only have sugarcane and banana production. 34 percent of the population suffers from unemployment. We trust you very much to convey our suffering to the international community.”

Danik Zandronis, a journalist with the Guadeloupe CANAL10 TV channel, suggested that Azerbaijan create a website and cover the problems of the territories suffering from colonialism in English and French.

He noted that the website could also highlight Azerbaijan’s support for this issue.

Javanshir Feyziyev, in his response to the foreign media representative, stated that this is possible: “You can apply for this within the framework of your visit to Azerbaijan and achieve it.”

Members of the Milli Majlis and Chairman of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) Abbas Abbasov answered the questions of the foreign media representatives.

The visit and meetings of the foreign media representatives to Baku were organized by the BIG.
