"Post COP29 Dialogue: The Road from Baku to Belem" held in Islamabad

Pakistani Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Romina Khurshid Alam, stated that the achievements at COP29 have reinforced Pakistan's commitment to adopting international carbon trading guidelines while commending Azerbaijan for successfully hosting the summit.

Speaking at the "Post-COP Dialogue on Operationalization of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: The Road from Baku to Belém" held in Islamabad on Monday, she stressed the need for robust monitoring and validation systems as critical for the effective implementation of carbon markets.

Ms. Alam highlighted the significance of COP29 outcomes in Baku, particularly the approval of carbon trading guidelines, calling it a key milestone in global climate action. "With the government actively collaborating with provincial and international stakeholders, Pakistan is positioning itself to capitalize on carbon trading, unlocking new opportunities for green development and sustainable climate action," she added.

She further underscored Pakistan’s potential to lead transformative change through projects focused on renewable energy, afforestation, and sustainable urban development. Emphasizing regional collaboration in South Asia, Ms. Alam expressed optimism about the collective progress achievable through carbon trading and climate finance initiatives in the region.
