In light of upcoming Jewish holiday of Hanukkah (Festival of Light), the New Year and the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, the Embassy of Israel in Azerbaijan organized an event themed “Light of Sight: Transforming Lives through Israeli Technology” at the Ateshgah Temple in Baku on Friday.

As part of the event, the Embassy donated four OrCam MyEye devices to Azerbaijani citizens with visual impairments. The recipients, recognized for their accomplishments in academic and artistic fields, will now benefit from advanced technology designed to enhance their daily lives.

OrCam MyEye is a wearable device developed in Israel that helps individuals with visual impairments by reading text, recognizing faces, and assisting with navigation.

The event featured the screening of a video highlighting the device’s capabilities.

George Deek, Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan, and Elnur Eyvazov, Professor at Azerbaijan’s ADA University, one of the recipients, addressed the event.

Emphasizing the innovative leadership of Israel, and the strong ties, bringing the people of Azerbaijan and Israel together, Ambassador George Deek said: “Innovation is most powerful when it serves humanity. Israel's story is one of taking challenges and turning them into opportunities. OrCam MyEye is born from that spirit. It reflects a belief that no obstacle is insurmountable when you combine determination with ingenuity. Today, we are not just giving a device; we are sharing that belief.”

In his remarks, Professor Elnur Eyvazov said that living with a disability has not held him back; rather, it has fueled his determination to succeed and contribute meaningfully to the world.

“Disability is not a barrier; it is a teacher. It has taught me to innovate, to think outside the box, and to approach problems with determination and empathy,” the professor added.

The program concluded with a commitment to fostering opportunities for individuals with disabilities through innovation and collaboration.

Founded in 2010, OrCam Technologies specializes in wearable solutions for individuals with disabilities. OrCam MyEye uses artificial intelligence to provide support for people with visual impairments, helping them lead more independent lives.
