“The US Embassy in Baku did not respond to Azerbaijani media's inquiry regarding possible steps by Washington to preserve Azerbaijan's cultural heritage in Armenia. The embassy only mentioned certain projects proposed by this country in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. Moreover, the US Embassy attempted to mislead the public with its statement,” the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement.
"We believe that with its response, the embassy has demonstrated its true attitude towards the principles of “freedom of speech” and “diversity of opinions” that the US always proclaims.
As the Western Azerbaijan Community, we regretfully note the US's ignoring of the issue of expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia, including the destruction of their cultural heritage. We have not yet received any response to our letter sent to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in April last year, requesting support for our right to return. The US government has repeatedly raised a series of fabricated issues under the guise of “human rights.” It is well-known that the current US administration only brings up topics like “human rights” and “cultural heritage” to make false accusations against Azerbaijan.
We strongly condemn the discrimination displayed by the current US administration against Azerbaijanis and call for an end to its biased policy, as well as call on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to respond to our letter. We also hope that in future hearings of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and other relevant bodies, the participation of representatives of the Western Azerbaijan Community will be ensured," the statement added.
