Azerbaijani, Iranian FMs discuss regional security

Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on the margins of the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The meeting focused on the items of the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Iran, including joint projects in the areas of economic, trade, energy security, transport and communications, and other domains, as well as regional and international security.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated his Iranian counterpart on Iran’s excellent hosting of the 28th meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers and the country’s successful ECO chairmanship.

He stressed the importance of high-level dialogue and the discussion of issues of mutual interest to further bilateral relations, which are founded on historical neighborhood, friendship, and cultural bonds.

The foreign ministers particularly highlighted the implementation of significant initiatives and agreements related to the development of Azerbaijan-Iran cooperation in energy and transport corridors.

They also emphasized the importance of regional transport and infrastructure projects, which will link Azerbaijan’s East Zangezur economic region with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iranian territory.

The top diplomats underscored the need to strengthen cooperation within regional and international platforms such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Economic Cooperation Organization.

They also exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern.
