The COP29 - Customs Commission has been established at the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan in connection with the assigned tasks related to customs matters for COP29, the committee said in response to Report’s inquiry.

An Action Plan has been prepared regarding the work to be carried out by the State Customs Committee.

According to the committee, in accordance with the action plan, relevant work has been carried out to ensure rapid border crossing and clearance, using technologies in contactless inspections, and providing information and awareness.

A "COP29 - temporary customs control zone" has been created in the territory of the Baku Olympic Stadium to expedite the clearance of materials and equipment brought for the organization of the event, and staff working there have been identified.

"Improvements have been made in the process of electronic pre-declaration of items that people visiting the country will bring with them. Thus, shortcuts for media representatives' item names have been prepared on the committee's relevant portal to make simplified customs declarations easier and faster, and a mechanism for confirming declarations with QR codes has been created," the statement reads.

To strengthen security, customs authorities have been equipped with inspection X-ray equipment meeting the latest technological capabilities, mobile and stationary inspection systems, baggage screening devices, and other technical control means.

Additionally, informative and explanatory videos about legislative requirements regarding goods crossing customs borders have been prepared and placed on the committee's official website to inform event participants and visitors about customs rules, and these have also been integrated into the official cop29.az website.

Furthermore, training sessions have been conducted for customs officers to increase necessary sectoral knowledge and improve service quality.
