A peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan should serve the national interests of both countries and be a decision made by the parties themselves, rather than a result of external pressure or influence, political analyst Basim Reza from Pakistan told Report.
He added that the peace treaty should be signed based on the national interests of Azerbaijan and Armenia, not under external influence, including from the European Parliament.
"The core reason of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be their bilateral interests, their national interests because co-existing in a similar region with cordial relations is actually the backbone for development. That is the basis for the development of the whole region. So I think there should be a peace treaty and that peace treaty should be made just because Armenia and Azerbaijan want it, not out of any other external pressure," he noted.
Reza emphasized that the European Parliament's anti-Azerbaijani resolution is biased, considering that this body didn't take into account the history of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the political analyst noted that the European Parliament's calls to boycott COP29, which will be held in Baku, are disappointing.
"Such unilateral actions and such calls for sanctions, they are condemnable and it is literally painful that these actions, these calls for actions are coming from an entity that has been the flag and torchbearer when it comes to countering the devastation of the climate change. The whole scenario seems very disappointing," he added.
