On October 31, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories.

During their discussion, they addressed the cooperation agenda between the two countries, along with the current regional situation and the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The officials commended the collaboration between Azerbaijan and UK, particularly in energy, education, and mutual investments. They stressed that intensifying political dialogue, reciprocal visits, and resuming operations of the intergovernmental cooperation commissions would contribute to the development of cooperation in new areas.

The Azerbaijani FM shared insights into Azerbaijan’s vision for achieving lasting peace in the region, detailing the practical steps the country is taking and the ongoing peace process with Armenia. He noted significant progress towards signing a peace agreement initiated by Azerbaijan while pointing out that Armenia’s ongoing territorial claims, as enshrined in its constitution, remain a major obstacle to finalizing the agreement.

The conversation also covered various aspects of alternative energy cooperation, highlighting joint projects between SOCAR and bp in solar energy production, as well as preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
