The state and prospects of development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, as well as the peace process between Baku and Yerevan and the upcoming COP29 conference were discussed during the working visit of the representative of the president of Azerbaijan on special assignments Elchin Amirbayov to Japan, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to this country, Gursel Ismayilzada, wrote on X, Report informs.
"On a working visit to Japan Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments, met with National Security Advisor Mr Takeo Akiba, State Minister for foreign affairs Mr Kiyoto Tsuji, Head of foreign and defense committee of the House of Councillors Ms Kimi Onoda to discuss Azerbaijan-Japan bilateral relations, current status, prospects and challenges to the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and forthcoming COP29 in Baku."
In addition, Elchin Amirbayov delivered a report on the topic "Historical Chance for Peace in the South Caucasus: Challenges and Opportunities" at the Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR). In his speech, he emphasized the importance of a peaceful settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia to ensure stability and prosperity in the region.
The visit of the representative of the president of Azerbaijan to Japan demonstrates the desire of the two countries to strengthen partnership and develop mutually beneficial cooperation. The discussion of current issues in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia underscores the role of the international community in promoting long-term peace in the region.
Japan and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations in 1992, and since then, the countries have been actively developing cooperation in various fields, including economy, energy, and culture.
