A conference entitled “The right to decolonization of French Polynesia - challenges and perspectives” was held at the Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis on Thursday.

Addressing the conference, the First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseynli welcomed the participants of the conference on behalf of the Speaker of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and wished them success.

Ali Huseynli emphasized that the Azerbaijani government and people have consistently shown strong resistance to the policy of neocolonialism. He highlighted the significance of the discussions held by the Republic of Azerbaijan on this issue at the international level, particularly by President Ilham Aliyev during Azerbaijan's Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He noted that the establishment of the Baku Initiative Group also serves this purpose.

Speaking at the conference, Victor Maamaatuaiahutapu, Secretary General of the Tāvini Huiraʻatira Party and head of the delegation of French Polynesia, highlighted the efforts made by his people and the Party for self-determination. Members of the French Polynesia delegation expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to bring the truth about France’s colonial policy to the world.

The conference was attended by MPs, representatives of relevant structures, and other officials.

The speakers at the conference included the member of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Nizami Safarov, the Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group Abbas Abbasov, the Chairmen of the Milli Majlis committees Samad Seyidov, Ziyafat Asgarov, Zahid Oruj and Fazil Mustafa.
