Azerbaijan might not have existed if not for the will of Heydar Aliyev, Mikhail Shvydkoi, the Russian President’s Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation, told journalists, the Russian bureau of Report informs.
He noted that it would have been impossible to prevent the collapse of the country if not for the will of Heydar Aliyev: “Today I just looked at several historical documents and sources that reflected the events of Azerbaijani history from 1990 and 1991 to 1995. And, of course, this is extraordinary strong impression, this is a time of coups, rebellions, a time when the country was simply split into pieces, when a significant part of the country was occupied, and it would have been impossible to prevent the disintegration of the country if not for the will of Heydar Aliyev.”
