US welcomes agreement reached between Azerbaijan, Armenia

The US welcomes the start of the border delimitation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, said at a briefing, Report informs.

"We welcome the news that Armenia and Azerbaijan have adopted the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration as a basis for delimiting the borders between the two countries. This is an important step towards a long-term and dignified peace agreement," he said.

Patel also noted that the institution does not yet intend to make any statement regarding the possible visit of Louis Bono, the US State Department's chief adviser on Caucasus negotiations, to the region.

A meeting of the Azerbaijan-Armenia delimitation commission was held on April 19, and a number of agreements were reached.
