EuroNest PA's 11th session highlights exceptional role of Azerbaijan in ensuring security in the region

The 11th ordinary session of the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly has today kicked off in Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium.

 

Azerbaijan is represented at the session by the head of the country's delegation, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and EntrepreneurshipTahir Mirkishili, MPs Soltan Mammadov, Vugar Bayramov, Iltizam Yusifov, Razi Nurullayev and Nurlan Hasanov.

 

During the session, the participants heard committee reports, elected new committee chairmen, and defined the themes of the next reports.

 

The EuroNest PA's Committee on Political Affairs, Human Rights, and Democracy (POL) presented a report on regional security challenges.

 

Following the amendments proposed by the Azerbaijani delegation and adopted by the majority of votes, such phrases as "Frozen Nagorno-Karabakh conflict", "Referring to the Alma-Ata Declaration in defining the Azerbaijani-Armenian borders", "Peace negotiations are conducted only with the mediation of Brussels" were removed from the report. Instead, the report emphasized the importance of supporting the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as stressing the necessity for this process to adhere to international legal norms.

 

Addressing the discussions, Azerbaijani MPs Tahir Mirkishili, Tural Ganjaliyev and Nurlan Hasanov highlighted Azerbaijan's exceptional role in the establishment of security in the region, emphasizing the significance of signing a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and opening regional communications.
