Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has held a meeting with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili on the sidelines of the 9th trilateral meeting of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian Foreign Ministers.

The meeting touched upon the issues concerning the current bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as the regional situation in the post-conflict period.

Expressing their assurance that the further evolving of friendly and good neighbourly relations between the two countries would contribute to regional cooperation, the pair highlighted the importance of high-level contacts and the mechanism of political consultations in this regard.

The FMs also emphasized the imperative for using the existing potential for cooperation in the economic domain and the successful implementation of joint projects, mentioning the key role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Georgia in this regard.

Jeyhun Bayramov informed his Georgian counterpart on the current regional situation in the post-conflict period, as well as the ongoing restoration and construction efforts, and peace initiatives of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani minister underlined that with the resolution of the former Armenia-Azerbaijani conflict, fertile conditions have been created for strengthening regional cooperation. However, Bayramov pointed out that the challenges facing the peace process, especially the projecting of a number of countries' narrow political agendas to the region, posed a negative impact on the peace process.

Georgian FM Ilia Darchiashvili thanked the Azerbaijani side for the perfect organization of the 9th trilateral meeting of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian FMs and expressed his county`s eagerness towards further development of regional cooperation within this format.

The two had a broad exchange of views on other issues.
