A number of services will be digitized within the framework of the Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia (TRACECA), Rufat Bayramov, national secretary of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission for Azerbaijan, told Report.
According to him, work is currently underway in this direction: "Digitalization will be applied in several types of transport - both TIR and railway transport will use electronic invoices. Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia and Türkiye have signed a memorandum for the introduction of electronic CIM/SMGS receipts on the railways of Kazakhstan. Pilot projects are planned in this regard."
In addition, the TRACECA official said that work is ongoing on the implementation of the single transit agreement: "The agreement will be signed this year. This will make it easier to carry goods along the corridor. Because it will be possible to use the permission obtained along the entire corridor, in all countries. In general, we are trying to facilitate cargo transportation along TRACECA. We are taking steps in line with the current realities to increase cargo transportation in the corridor. The interest in the Middle Corridor is currently increasing," he said.
Bayramov also touched upon the impact of the decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea on transportation: "The decline of the water level affects ships. Currently, vessels in the Caspian Sea are 75% loaded. This problem has been observed for the past few years."
