The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) will organize the “Decolonization: Awakening of the Renaissance” international conference in Istanbul on Saturday, BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov told a press conference.

He said that a total of five international conferences had been conducted by the Baku Initiative Group over the last four months in 2023. “The primary objective of these conferences was to amplify the voices of people in countries affected by colonialism to the global community. As the Baku Initiative Group, we have successfully achieved this goal, enabling those impacted by colonialism to express their concerns through the established platforms,” Abbas Abbasov emphasized.

He further noted that the BIG’s activities planned for this year would cover not only political events but also social and economic initiatives.

The upcoming conference will convene 50 representatives from 13 countries and four international organizations, including delegates from French colonies such as New Caledonia, French Polynesia, French Guiana, Martinique, and Guadeloupe.

The Baku Initiative Group was established by participants of the round table on “Towards the complete elimination of colonialism” held in Baku on July 6, 2023, as part of the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) chaired by the Republic of Azerbaijan.
