France’s supply of weapons to Armenia indicates the short-sightedness of the policy pursued by Paris. Moreover, it harms the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Germany Nasimi Aghayev said, Report informs referring to RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).
“We consider this policy to be very short-sighted. France should rather support the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia than contribute to a new war,” he said.
According to the ambassador, it is unreasonable and not pragmatic for France to sacrifice European interests for the sake of domestic political ones.
The article emphasizes that the reason for France’s solidarity with Armenia is that a large Armenian diaspora lives in France, numbering about 600,000 people: “The Armenian community in France is considered well organized and influential in domestic politics... After the 44-day war of 2020, during which Azerbaijan regained a significant part of the territories occupied by Armenia, France also publicly distanced itself from Azerbaijan.”
Aghayev stressed that since then there has been tension between the two countries.
The ambassador reminded that relatively recently the French Senate again adopted an anti-Azerbaijani resolution.
“We consider this unfair and not in accordance with international law,” Aghayev said.
