The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizada, commented on the statement of the European Union against Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing MFA.
"We firmly reject the European Union's (EU) groundless accusations regarding the detention of journalists and political activists in Azerbaijan. We consider such unfounded and biased statements as attempts to interfere with the independence of the judiciary in Azerbaijan. "Interference with the course of the investigation is unacceptable, and interference with the work of the judicial process is contrary to the principle of the rule of law, which is the main principle of the rule of law," the statement reads.
Hajizada regretfully noted that the EU's indifference to the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of people in Armenia, the death of people arrested as a result of political persecution, as well as the persecution of politicians and their family members, is a clear example of double standards.
He recommended the EU pay attention to human rights violations in its member states instead of making such baseless statements against Azerbaijan: "The EU side has not yet investigated the facts of the killing of 12 members in the 'yellow vests' protest in France, the spread of bribery and corruption in the EU structures, Islamophobia, and attacks against Muslims. Against the background of the mentioned cases, such biased and unfair statements by the EU are considered interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan. These baseless claims are damaging the development prospects of Azerbaijan and EU relations."
