Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the EU Commission Josep Borrell as part his working visit to Brussels.

The meeting saw discussions on the bilateral relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, including the cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program, as well as the current situation in the region.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed Josep Borrell about the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The minister noted the positive impact of the recent confidence-building measures on the normalization process between the two countries.

FM Bayramov said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the mediation efforts of President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel in the process of normalization. “The biased statements made by certain European Union officials undermine the role of the EU as an impartial mediator in the mentioned process,” the minister emphasized.

Minster Jeyhun Bayramov underscored that establishing neighborly relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is the only way leading to peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.

During the meeting, the two also discussed other issues of bilateral and regional cooperation of mutual interest.
