Ambassador of Latvia to Azerbaijan Edgars Skuja has visited the country’s National Library named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov.
During the meeting, Director of the National Library, professor Karim Tahirov informed the ambassador about the National Library of Azerbaijan, as well as the Latvian corner opened in the hall of International Cooperation operating in the library.
He highlighted the signing of a memorandum on mutual cooperation between the National Library of Azerbaijan and the National Library of Latvia, the organization of international book exchange and bilateral events, as well as international book exchange.
Saying that he was glad to visit the National Library of Azerbaijan, Latvian Ambassador Edgars Skuja congratulated the library staff led by Professor Karim Tahirov on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Azerbaijan. He hailed the close international cooperation between the two countries in both the political and cultural fields.
The ambassador visited the "Heydar Aliyev" corner and got acquainted with the books displayed there.
Director Karim Tahirov noted that the books displayed in the Latvian corner are constantly updated always attracting the readers’ interest. Then, the ambassador got acquainted with the books displayed in the Latvian corner operating in the Hall of International Cooperation. He hailed the importance of presenting information about the history and culture of Latvia through these books.
Ambassador Edgars Skuja donated books on the literature, history, culture of the Republic of Latvia to the National Library of Azerbaijan on behalf of the National Library of Latvia.
Professor Karim Tahirov presented the guest with the books "Baku symphony", "Azerbaijan National Library" and "Azerbaijani carpets in world collections" on behalf of the National Library.
