Berlin celebrates Azerbaijan’s Victory Day and 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany organized an event titled “Peace and Coexistence” dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Azerbaijan’s glorious Victory in the Patriotic War and the 140th anniversary of the outstanding composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli at the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Berlin.

The event brought together nearly by 400 guests, including representatives of German government agencies, ambassadors of foreign countries, military attaches, media representatives, scientists and cultural figures, as well as members of Azerbaijani, Turkish and other communities living in Germany.

First, the cherished memory of Azerbaijani martyrs was honored with a minute of silence.

Subsequently, the event featured the screening of films dedicated to November 8 – Azerbaijan’s Victory Day and the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli.

Nasimi Aghayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany, stated that both events commemorated in Azerbaijan’s history and culture are of great importance.

The diplomat said that during the Patriotic War, the people of Azerbaijan, under the leadership of President and Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, demonstrated unwavering solidarity and determination. He also emphasized the active political and moral support of friendly states, especially brotherly Türkiye, during this difficult period.

The Ambassador also added that the tragic loss of 20 servicemen in the crash of a Turkish military aircraft a few days ago was met with deep sorrow by the Azerbaijani people.

Ambassador Aghayev underscored that the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli has been celebrated through a series of events both in Azerbaijan and abroad, noting that Uzeyir Hajibeyli is the author of the first opera in the entire Muslim world.

The event also included a concert program performed by Honored Artists Ramil Gasimov and Inara Babayeva, together with tar player Sakhavat Mammadov works by Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Fikrat Amirov, and classical European composers under the direction of Ayyub Guliyev, chief conductor of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. The musicians were accompanied by the renowned Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

The event concluded with a performance of Muslim Magomayev’s song “Azerbaijan”.
