An endangered Persian leopard was seen in the Ustyurt State Nature Reserve in Mangistau region, according to Kazinform.
The Persian leopard pushed to the brink of extinction was captured on trail cameras installed as part of the international Persian leopard monitoring and conservation project with support from the National Geographic Society, Segre’ Foundation, Conservation X Labs, Biodiversity Research and Conservation Center (BRCC) and the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK).
The Persian leopard was caught on trail cameras four times in the territory of the park between October 29 and December 21, 2024.
The return of the Persian leopard symbolizes the restoration of the Ustyurt plateau ecosystem and the result of a joint effort, the park’s press service said. This success encourages to go ahead with this work to further study and protect this rare animal, it added.
