Astana hosts presentation of Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform

The COP29 Presidency’s Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform (BTP) was presented during an event focused on the preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) for the Central Asia, South Caucasus, and Eastern Europe, held in Astana, Report informs.

The event, organized by Azerbaijan's initiative and co-hosted by the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA), Kazakhstan Agency of International Development (KazAID), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), brought together over 50 experts responsible for preparing BTRs in the aforementioned regions.

During the opening ceremony, Umayra Taghiyeva, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, delivered a speech highlighting Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency and the global initiatives undertaken within this framework, including the BTP. She emphasized that the main objectives of the BTP are to foster trust and confidence among the parties, provide support to developing countries in preparing and finalizing their BTRs, and promote universal participation in the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) while continuing the transparency agenda beyond COP29.

Taghiyeva stated that the BTP will serve as a platform for collaboration and coordination among stakeholders from all sectors of society, including government, international organizations, NGOs, and the private sector, in the field of climate transparency.

The event also featured speeches by Yerlan Nyssanbayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, Zulfiya Suleymanova, Advisor to the President of Kazakhstan and Special Representative for International Environmental Cooperation, as well as representatives from UNFCCC and other international organizations. They expressed their support for Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency and commended the country's efforts in climate transparency, emphasizing the significance of the BTP as a crucial initiative in this field.

The speakers highlighted that the BTP will contribute to global efforts by sharing countries' experiences and successes in preparing their BTRs and participating in the ETF. This groundbreaking platform is expected to play a vital role in advancing climate transparency worldwide.
