UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach hailed the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization, expressing her confidence that new joint initiatives would further enhance their collaboration.

The sides underscored the importance of the Azerbaijan National Urban Forums held in 2022 and 2023 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev. They also stressed the significance of the Baku hosted-World Habitat Day 2023 in partnership with the UN-Habitat.

Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev pointed out that Baku would host the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in 2026, which is an indication of the dynamic development of the partnership. Noting that Azerbaijan is hosting COP29 this year, Sultan Hajiyev said that the country would also host the World Environment Day in 2026.

In her turn, Anacláudia Rossbach expressed her confidence that the Azerbaijani delegation would successfully attend the Cairo-hosted-WUF12 to be held this November. According to her, the opening of the UN-Habitat’s Country office in Baku this year marks another important step taken to enhance the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization.
