The Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) has released the 13th edition of the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) for 2026, ranking countries by the level of terrorist threat.
This year’s index recorded a significant decline in terrorism worldwide. Deaths from terrorism fell by 28 percent to 5,582, while the number of attacks decreased by nearly 22 percent to 2,944.
According to the report, Azerbaijan ranked 93rd, placing it among the safest countries in the world, alongside New Zealand, Cyprus, and Belarus.
Pakistan, Burkina Faso, and Niger were identified as the three countries most affected by terrorism.
The Global Terrorism Index is a comprehensive study analyzing the impact of terrorism across 163 countries, covering 99.7 percent of the world’s population. It takes into account factors such as the number of terrorist incidents, deaths caused by terrorism, counter-terrorism measures, the effectiveness of investigations, and other indicators.
The report is produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace, using data from Dragonfly’s TerrorismTracker database and other sources.
