Azerbaijan, Serbia strengthen cooperation in green and conventional energy

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy hosted the inaugural hybrid meeting of the Joint Working Group on energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia.

The session was co-chaired by Orkhan Zeynalov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, and Sonja Vlahović, State Secretary of Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy. Participants included Azerbaijani representatives from SOCAR, the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources, the Energy Regulatory Agency, and “Azeristiliktechizat” JSC, as well as Serbian officials from the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the company “Srbijagas.”

Deputy Minister Zeynalov highlighted the growing collaboration between the two countries across multiple sectors, emphasizing energy as a key area of partnership.

Vlahović noted that the agreements and memorandums signed between Azerbaijan and Serbia have elevated bilateral cooperation to a strategic level.

The meeting focused on discussions in the oil and gas sector, energy infrastructure, electricity production, and energy efficiency. Participants emphasized that Azerbaijan’s gas deliveries to Serbia play a critical role in strengthening energy security for both Serbia and Europe.

The session also addressed a joint project to construct a gas-fired power plant in Niš, along with cooperation in heating supply, green energy, and energy efficiency initiatives.
