In its analytical report on EU energy policy, the Romanian economic outlet Financial Intelligence said that recent efforts to diversify energy supplies have effectively enhanced the EU’s resilience against geopolitical crises.

The article mentioned that prior to the war in Ukraine, the EU relied on Russia for roughly 45% of its natural gas imports and a quarter of its oil supply.

According to the analysis, currently Norway, the U.S., Algeria, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are among the major suppliers in the European energy market. The article underscored the role of the U.S. in the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which has increased significantly.

The article also highlighted Azerbaijan’s role in Europe's energy security. The author noted that the Southern Gas Corridor has provided an alternative and reliable energy source for Europe, reducing the EU's strategic dependence. The introduction of Azerbaijani natural gas to the European market is regarded as a crucial stabilizing element, particularly for the countries of Southern and Southeastern Europe.

The publication also stated that the diversification of energy sources not only allows the EU to minimize supply risks, but also to ensure consistent energy pricing, economic viability, and greater geopolitical flexibility.

The author concluded that the EU’s energy strategy is building a more independent, flexible, and crisis-resilient model for the future, noting that the role of reliable partners such as Azerbaijan in this model is constantly growing.
