The State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container shipping and logistics company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Baku.
The agreement aims to strengthen Türkiye’s role in the global supply chain through joint investments in SOCAR Terminal, the largest container port in the Aegean region.
Under the agreement, MSC’s subsidiary and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), a global terminal operator, will become a shareholder in SOCAR Terminal.
The partnership will enable SOCAR Terminal’s integration into TIL’s extensive global network. With the introduction of new equipment and technological investments, the terminal is expected to boost its capacity, enhance operational efficiency, and achieve significant progress in digitalization, sustainability, and infrastructure development.
SOCAR Terminal, known as the “Largest Integrated Port of the Aegean Region,” holds strategic importance for both regional and global trade. It features a 700-meter continuous pier, 16-meter depth, 420,000 square meters of port area, and 30,000 square meters of backwater area.
