Azerbaijan`s Economy Minister holds series of meetings in London

As part of his visit to the United Kingdom to attend the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) 2025 Annual Meeting and Business Forum, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov held a series of high-level meetings.

During his meeting with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, Minister Jabbarov emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to developing relations with the Bank. He highlighted the importance of applying advanced experience and technological innovations to joint projects implemented in Azerbaijan. Jabbarov also underlined the significance of the partnership with the European Union across various programs and projects, particularly in accelerating the country’s transition to a green and digital economy. The sides discussed priority areas of cooperation, the implementation of green energy and infrastructure projects, and the need to strengthen joint efforts toward a sustainable economy.

In a meeting with Doina Nistor, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization of Moldova, the parties discussed opportunities to enhance economic cooperation. They highlighted strong potential for collaboration in investment, trade, energy, and other key sectors, as well as expanding economic and trade relations and exploring new avenues for partnership.

As part of the EBRD Annual Meeting, Minister Jabbarov also met with EBRD First Vice President Jürgen Rigterink. He expressed gratitude to Rigterink, who is concluding his tenure, for his valuable contributions to the bilateral partnership, and extended his best wishes to Greg Guyett upon his appointment to the role. Jabbarov reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening its cooperation with the EBRD, noting that this collaboration is crucial to implementing innovative solutions and advancing the green and digital transition.

In his meeting with Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Jabbarov stressed the importance of diversifying economic ties with Egypt. He noted that trade and investment are key areas of bilateral cooperation. The sides evaluated prospects for establishing institutional mechanisms and platforms to boost interaction between business communities and strengthen cooperation in energy, SMEs, industry, infrastructure, transport, logistics, and other fields.

Minister Jabbarov also met with Lionel Rapaille, Director at the European Investment Bank. The discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s fruitful cooperation with the Bank in infrastructure, digital development, and related areas. Jabbarov emphasized the country’s interest in building long-term relations with the Bank and underscored the importance of supporting business entities, enhancing cooperation in infrastructure projects, and increasing the effectiveness of joint initiatives.
