Azerbaijan, World Bank discuss COP29 and Country Partnership Framework

Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, met Tuesday with Sameh Naguib Wahba, World Bank’s (WB) Regional Director for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia.

During the meeting, the sides hailed the development of the Azerbaijan-WB cooperation. They pointed out the contribution of the joint projects to the diversification of the Azerbaijani economy, development of the private sector, infrastructure, household solid waste management, agriculture and other domains.

The discussion also revolved around the potential cooperation areas with the World Bank, priority projects for the next years, renewable energy projects implemented in Azerbaijan, measures to support employment, as well as research conducted by the bank on supporting the state-owned enterprises, as well as opportunities for collaboration within the COP29.

The parties also exchanged views on joint interaction in the “Green and Sustainable Cities” project, the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems of Baku, as well as smart solutions in agriculture and irrigation systems, and the Country Partnership Framework for 2025-2029. The document envisages investment programs and technical assistance aligned with the country’s National Priorities.
